This guide explains how to create and use the attendance activity.

What is the attendance activity?


The attendance activity allows students to register their presence in a workshop, lecture or seminar using Learning Space. It should be noted that not all staff use Attendance to record presence in a session. The Attendance activity can be identified by the green and orange avatars icon:


Creating the attendance activity


Navigate to the module / course page that you want to add the Attendance activity to and ensure that you have editing enabled by clicking the "Turn editing on" button.




Scroll down to the section on the page that you want to add the activity to and select 'Add an activity or resource' from the bottom right of that section.



From the pop-up window select 'Attendance' and click 'Add'.



Next you will need to provide a name for the Attendance activity and a description, the latter could be used for explaining what happens if a student does not register, or what to do if they are unable to. Finally select 'Save and display'.




Adding a session


Select the 'Add session' tab from within the Attendance activity, and then click on the 'Add Session' dropdown.



In the example below, we have created a session for the 20th July 2018 from 1pm until 2pm. There is also a description box for any extra information about the session you are creating.



Once you are finished, click 'Add'. You will automatically be navigated to the 'Sessions' tab where the session is now visible.



Adding multiple sessions



Select the 'Add session' tab from within the Attendance activity, and then click on the 'Multiple Sessions' dropdown.


In the example below, we have created a session that will run first on 17th July from 1pm until 2pm and then every Wednesday at that time until 17th December 2018.



The result is 22 sessions that can be viewed by clicking the 'Sessions' tab.

Note: Students can only register if 'Allow students to record their own attendance' is selected.
