The video summarises the step-by-step guides below, that details various methods of adding images to Learning Space.

Images

There are three ways to add images to the Learning Space.

1. As a text and media area (formerly known as "Label")

Select your image on your desktop or in your files.

Next, drag the image into the area you would like the image to be displayed.

You will then be presented with a choice, to either upload the image as a file, or to display it as a text and media area by selecting "Add image to module page".

Your image will now be displayed on the page.

2. As a file

Firstly select "Add an activity or resource".

Next, scroll down and select "File".

Then, using the file picker, select your image.

3. Embedded in text

It is possible within Learning Space to add an image within text. This is commonly used within section headings and the 'Page' resource.

To begin, first select the picture icon on the left of the video camera icon in the text editor menu bar.

Window to embed an image in Learning Space.

You will be presented with the "Image properties" window.

The "Image properties" window.

Selecting 'Browse repositories' will shown the 'File Picker' window. From here you can click 'Choose file' and select the image that you would like to upload. Then click 'Upload this file'.

Picking a file to upload.

You will then be returned to the 'Image properties' window. From here you can add a title for the image, or tick 'description not necessary', then it is important to add a size in pixels - this may require some adjusting but try to ensure that it is not too large as some users access the Learning Space on a mobile device.

You may also wish to change the alignment of the image by selecting an option from the alignment drop down box.

You have successfully embedded an image. To edit the image, simply click on the image within the text editor and then click the picture icon again.

Exclamation mark iconImportant: To delete an image, navigate to where the image is. Instead of selecting the image icon as you would do to add an image, select the 'Manage files' icon, that looks like two pages on top of each other. You can view a list of all the images you uploaded for this area. Delete an image by clicking it's tick box and selecting the bin (delete) icon.

Videos and Audio

From Summer 2023, all self-produced video and audio content for Learning & Teaching should be hosted on Panopto.

There are two recommended ways to insert Panopto videos and audio into Learning Space. You can either embed videos in section headings or labels using the Panopto LTI button in the Rich Text Editor, or you can add a Panopto activity to create a link in the module which opens videos in a separate page.

For more guidance on these two methods, please refer to the Panopto for Staff guidance.

Youtube/Vimeo videos

External videos that are hosted on Youtube/Vimeo/etc should not be added to Panopto, and can be embedded into Learning Space pages using their native embed codes, or linked to using a URL.

There are 3 ways to add a link to Learning space.

1. Add as a resource

Firstly ensure you have editing turned on, scroll to the section on the page where you want to add the link and then click'Add an activity or resource'.Next, from the menu that appears, scroll down to the 'URL' resource and click 'Add'.

Finally, type in a useful name for the link e.g. "Video Tutorial - How to use Photoshop", paste the link itself in the "External URL" field and click "Save and display".

Window to enter all the necessary details for a web link (URL).

You will now see a resource has been created.

2. Add as a hyperlink
