This accessibility statement applies to the Digital Learning Solutions guide both as part of the Falmouth University Learning Space and as a website run by the Digital Learning team. 

The Digital Learning team wants everyone using our websites and digital resources to have a positive experience. For example, that means you should be able to: 

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen,
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard,
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software, 
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

Accessibility features in different devices

My Computer My Way on the AbilityNet website explains how people can make their computers, tablets and smart phones easier to use and is divided into the following sections: vision, hearing, motor and cognitive (learning differences). A wide range of devices are covered with downloadable factsheets

We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, please contact us using our webform. You will get a confirmation within five working days that your form has been received and a full response within 20 working days.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Falmouth University and the Digital Learning team are committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially complaint with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standard. Areas of non-compliance are listed below, with a description of how an element does not comply, why it is an exception or how we intend to resolve the issue. Should any part of the website not work for you please contact us so that we can correct it. 

Non-accessible content

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below. Audited against the WCAG 2.1 standards. 

 

Links without description

Some links required more meaningful descriptions, so as not to cause confusion (WCAG: 2.4.4). 

We have corrected this issue and all links have been given meaningful descriptions to meet the current standard. Should you find any links that don't have a meaningful description, please contact us.  

 

Images without description

Some images did not have alternative descriptive text, an issue that cause difficulty for people with assistive devices and screen readers (WCAG: 1.1.1). 

We have corrected this issue, but should you find any images we have missed, or that inadequate descriptions please contact us.

 

Contrast issues

Some screen shot images contained text with low contrast between background and text. These would have proved difficult to read for those with low vision, poor eyesight or colour blindness (WCAG: 1.4.3). 

We have corrected this issue by ensuring appropriate alternative text is used and replacing some images. Should you find any elements with poor contrast please contact us. 

 

Third-party content

Our Solutions website is hosted by a third-party meaning we do not have total control over some interactive elements (WCAG: 5.4.0). This includes the Solutions side-bar widget within the Learning Space that has been ‘skinned’ to look like the Learning Space pages (WCAG: 4.1.2). 

We will continue to audit our custom content and will work with our suppliers to improve the accessibility of their platform in the future. 

 

Disproportionate burden

For information, we have not classified any of the non-compliant content as a disproportionate burden to fix and we do not have any issues that would class as an exemption under law. 

 

Content outside the scope of the accessibility regulations

No content within the Digital Learning Solutions website have been deemed outside of the scope of the accessibility regulations, apart from Third-party content. For example, features of the Learning Space sidebar. 

 

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

This statement has outlined the ways the Digital Learning team continue to improve the accessibility of Digital Learning Solutions. To summarise, these include: 

  • From September 2020, creating new content that conforms to the new regulations. 
  • Reacting quickly and effectively to feedback regarding non-compliant content. 
  • Periodically reviewing our guides for accessibility issues and correcting any issues.
