Overview

MURAL is a university approved tool that can be used to facilitate a variety of learning and teaching activities with students. In order to meet the academic and regulatory requirements of Falmouth University’s Submission and Retention Of Student Work Policy, murals that have been used for learning and teaching purposes must be archived and retained for a period of six years.

To adhere to the retention policy, murals should be archived by academic staff, after each study block, to ensure that the murals are no longer editable by students, even if they still have access to any murals via a visitor link.

What is archiving?

Archiving in mural is a method of securely storing student output created for learning and teaching purposes so it can be ‘read only’ and, if requested, can be accessed up to six years after its creation date.

After each study block, murals should be archived by academic staff to ensure that they are no longer editable by students even if they still have access to a mural via an editable visitor link. By using the archive function in MURAL, murals will become 'read only'.

Who can archive a mural?

All mural owners have the ability to archive their murals.

In a mural, hover over ‘Members’, indicated by the person icon, in the top tool bar of a mural, to reveal if you are the mural owner.

FAQs

The frequently asked questions below offer some trouble shooting tips about the archiving process in MURAL.

Question iconI want to bulk archive murals. Can this be done?

Currently MURAL does not support the ability to bulk archive murals. Murals can only be archived on an individual basis.

Question iconI have archived my murals but I can not see them with the ‘Archived murals’ filter enabled.

Archived murals are location specific. If you archive murals in a folder, you will not be able to see them in the Room even with the ‘Archived murals’ filter enabled. Click into the Study block folder (e.g. FAO710-SB1-22/23) that the murals were archived in, apply the ‘Archived murals’ filter view and the archived murals will appear.

Question iconHow do I create a copy of a mural that has been archived?

Archived murals can be duplicated. Locate the desired mural and click on the three dots icon to the right of the mural’s thumbnail. Then click the ‘Duplicate’ button. A copy of the mural will be created but it will be active and not archived. To view the newly duplicated mural, enable the ‘Active murals’ filter view and the mural will appear.
