Introduction

If you use the Learning Space or Falmouth Learn you may have noticed that you can use Panopto buttons within these environments to create and embed videos. Panopto doesn’t have a direct integration with Journal, so videos need to be embedded using a different method which is covered in this guide.

Step one – copy video embed code

  1. Go to panopto.falmouth.ac.uk
  2. Locate the video you want to embed (this should be stored in your My Folder)
  3. Hover over it and click the share button to display options
  1. As you're going to embed the video in a separate platform, the access setting will need to be changed to allow anyone who has the link to view it. Click Change and select Public (unlisted).

Note: You can select other settings, but people will need to be logged into their Panopto accounts through their Microsoft single sign in to view that video and that means that you risk viewers getting an error message that they don't have permission to view the video.

  1. Select the Embed option
  1. Then select your preferred display/play options and click the Copy Embed Code button

Step 2 – embed your video in Journal

The embed code that you’ve copied will need to be pasted into the Code editor in Journal (not the default Visual editor). Follow the steps below to change the editor and embed your video.

  1. Open your Journal post or page (or create a new one)
  2. Click the 3-dot icon (top right)
  1. Select Code editor to open the code view of your post/page
  1. Click at the point where you want the video to be embedded and paste the embed code (e.g. Windows - Control V, Mac - Command V)

In the example below you can see that the embed code is in an iframe.

  1. To return to the visual editor, follow steps 1 - 2 above and select visual editor.

Once you’ve returned to the visual editor, you’ll see that your video is in a block so can be moved up or down as with any other block.
