Introduction

One of the main advantages of using Journal instead of a static document is that you can embed third party content. There are a couple of ways to do this, but the easiest way is through the text and content editor. This guide will take you through the basics.

Contents

Text and content editor

  1. To access the text and content editor, open your Journal page and click the Edit link.
  2. Then click the ‘+’ (Add Block) icon to view the list of blocks. You can enter a search term (if you know the name of the block you want) or click Browse all to view all blocks available.

External content

  1. To view all third party embed options, click Browse all.
This will display all blocks in various categories on the left side of your screen.
  2. Enter Embeds in the Search bar to see the list of compatible sites that Journal works with.

Embed a YouTube video

On YouTube – start to play the video, pause it, click Share and copy the URL.

To embed in your Journal:

Select YouTube from the Embeds list, paste in the URL and click the Embed button.

To save your changes, click Publish (if it’s a new page) or Update (if you’ve added it to an existing page).

Embed a Twitter post

On Twitter – click the post you want to embed, then copy the URL.

To embed in your Journal:

Select Twitter from the Embeds list, paste in the URL and click the Embed button.

To save your changes, click Publish (if it’s a new page) or Update (if you’ve added it to an existing page).

Custom html block

You may want to embed other external content that you don’t see a block for, e.g. an Instagram post. The custom html block can be used for this, but you will need the embed code instead of the URL.

Embed an Instagram post

On Instagram - click the post you want to embed, click the 3 – dot icon (top right corner of post), select the Embed option then click the Copy embed code button.

To embed in your Journal:

Select the Custom html block and paste in the embed code. Click preview to view the embedded post.

To save your changes, click Publish (if it’s a new page) or Update (if you’ve added it to an existing page).
