Overview
Panopto Capture allows you to record audio, video, application windows and entire screens in your browser instead of downloading the desktop application. This guide shows you how to use Panopto Capture and takes you through steps to record a PowerPoint presentation.

Log in to Panopto
- Go to panopto.falmouth.ac.uk
- Login with your Falmouth email and password
Note: Before using Panopto Capture, make sure that you are using the latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge.
Launch Panopto Capture
- Click your My Folder (in the left menu)
This is your personal folder where you can store and share video and audio files.
- Click the + Create button
- Select the Panopto Capture option – Panopto Capture will open in a new browser tab
- If you are prompted by your browser to give Panopto access to your microphone and camera, click Allow
Panopto will automatically select your default microphone and camera.
Note: If you want to select a different microphone or camera, click the audio or video button and select the microphone or camera that you want to use. You can also remove the camera from here if you don’t want to be captured in the video.
Backgrounds
- Select a background - (optional)
Background options include No background (default) and Blur background. You also have the option to upload your own background images (up to a maximum of three).
To upload your own background images:
- Click the cog icon (bottom right)
- Click the + icon in the Background section
- Select the image you want to upload from your computer and click Open
To select a background option:
- Hover over your camera feed to access the toolbar
- Click the Background Off button to navigate through the available background options – e.g. click once to change it to Blur, twice to change it to the first image you uploaded etc.
Screen sharing
- Click the Screens and Apps button
- Click Chrome tab, Window or Entire screen tab, select what you want to share and click the Share button
Note: When sharing an application, make sure it isn’t minimised so that you can select it in Panopto.
Recording a presentation
- In the example below the BBB_Tour presentation has been selected from the Window tab
- Select your presentation and click the Share button
- Click the Record button to start recording
- When recording your presentation, minimise your browser once you have started the recording
- Start your slide show and navigate through your slides
- When you have finished presenting, click to exit the presentation and click the Stop Sharing button (bottom centre screen)
- Maximise your browser window, go to the Panopto tab and click the Record button to stop the recording.
Panopto post recording options
When you have finished the recording, Panopto will take you to the post recording page and will notify you when it is safe to close the browser window.
On this page you have options to:
- Redo – which allows you to re-record without Panopto saving the recording you have just completed
- Record New – this option will save the recording you have completed and allow you to record a new video
- Add a video title – Click into the field containing the date and time of the recording and enter a title
- Use the Player controls to watch the video
- Manage access – the post recording menu also allows you to change the share permissions of your video:
- Click the Manage access button
- If your video is for an assessment, click Change and select Your organisation (unlisted)
Locate your video in Panopto
Navigate back to Panopto and click into My Folder to access your video.
