Core Falmouth Online content
For Academic staff, adding content to Panopto is part of the production schedule for Falmouth Online modules.
For guidance on creating effective video lectures, look at our Video content creation checklist
- Academic Staff creates videos using Panopto Capture or external software
- Academic Staff adds videos into their My Folder in Panopto and completes any necessary editing (including adding any quizzes)
- Academic Staff lets the Learning Resource Designer know that content is available
- Learning Resource Designer moves content into the correct Falmouth Online folder (video can no longer be edited by Academic Staff)
- Learning Technologist embeds video into Canvas
- Digital Intern manually checks and edits captions
Additional Staff content
During the teaching phase of modules, staff can create and share Panopto videos in announcements and discussion forums within the Falmouth Learn environment. The integration between Panopto and Canvas provides students and staff with the correct permissions to view these videos.
Using the Panopto button
To embed video or audio content from your Panopto account, click on the 'Panopto' button and then select 'Panopto content'.
- Choose will display existing video content in your account.
- Upload enables you to upload video and audio content.
- Record allows you to record content via Panopto Capture (using your web browser) or via the Panopto for Mac or Windows App.
Sharing videos externally
Panopto videos can also be shared externally (eg in Teams or email) but in these cases permissions need to be configured manually.
Learn how to share a video externally, and other sharing methods from the Panopto sharing guidance.
Student content
Students can use Panopto to create and share videos in discussion forums within the Falmouth Learn environment
This can be achieved by:
- Upload/create content into their My Folder
- Navigate to Canvas and create a discussion forum post
- Use the Panopto button to select the video from their My Folder
If students are expected to use Panopto to post in forums, guidance should be created and shared in the Falmouth Learn module.
Using Panopto for assessment
Panopto can be used to enable students to submit video and audio for summative and formative assessments.
This will be facilitated by students uploading videos to their Panopto My Folder, correctly setting viewing permissions, and putting a link to videos into a Microsoft Word document which will be submitted through a Canvas Assignment. Basic guidance for students can be found in the Submitting a video assessment using Panopto guide, but this should be recreated within Falmouth Learn in discussion with your Learning Design team.
Panopto assessments should be discussed with Learning Designers and Learning Technologists during the module build phase of the production schedule.
