This guide explains how to create and use the Choice activity.

What is the Choice activity?

The Choice feature within Learning Space allows users to select from a variety of choices presented to them. It can be used to run polls or you could use to ask a question at the beginning of a lecture, seminar or tutorial.

Creating the Choice activity

Navigate to the module / course page that you want to add the Choice activity to and ensure that you have editing enabled by clicking the "Edit mode" toggle.

Scroll down to the section on the page that you want to add the Choice activity to and select 'Add an activity or resource'.

From the pop-up window click on 'Choice'.

Enter a name and description. The description area is where you add your question.  You can also select if you want the options to be displayed horizontally or vertically.

In the 'Options' section you can select whether or not students can update the choice they have selected or allow them to select more than one choice and you also have the option to limit the number of responses for each choice. By default these options are set to 'No'.

Beneath these three settings is the area where you enter choices for students to choose from.  You can also set limits if enabled.

The next section refers to availability of the Choice activity, by default the activity will be available from its creation until it is deleted but if you would like the options to be made available for a specific time only this is where you will need to set dates and times for publication.

The results section allows you to chose what happens once an individual has selected a choice option, by default the results are anonymous and not shown to students. If you would like to change this the settings in this section should be altered. In the example below students will be able to see the results after the choice activity has closed and names will be anonymous.

Click 'Save and display'.

Your Choice activity has been successfully created.

A student can now enter the choice activity by clicking the title, where they will be presented with a choice and a button to save their choice.
